How serving clients fizz could land salon owners in prison -

FG_AUTHORS: admin

Hair and beauty salon owners are being warned that serving clients alcohol could land them a £20,000 fine or even time in prison unless they have a licence that is.

Many salons offer wine and fizz as part of their pampering packages but they are in fact breaking the law.

Staffordshire Police have issued the warning after their licensing team discovered several businesses treating their customers to alcohol without having their business licenced appropriately.

“Providing alcohol to customers without a licence is a breach of section 136 of the Licensing Act and is a criminal offence,” said Inspector Paul Prenter, head of Staffordshire Police’s licensing department.

“Please ensure your business is not giving alcohol to customers. Alternatively if you do wish to continue the practice, please contact your local council.”

The rules and regulations on serving complimentary alcohol varies across the different local authorities, so the best thing to do is to contact your local council to make sure you’re not breaking the law.
