Social media is more important than ever for beauty brands -
More people than ever are relying on Facebook and Instagram to help them make decisions about beauty products.
The Teneo Blue Rubicon’s Mobile Makeover Report, which was created on behalf of the social media companies, found that 45% of consumers shop online more now than they did a few years ago and 39% of those use social media to buy their beauty products.
Just under half of those surveyed (44%) admitted to using Instagram to find their inspiration, although checking it 21 times a day is a whole lot of inspiration!
Of those people, 67% admitted to taking further action, after seeing something that caught their eye, either buying online or researching the product further.
The study also found that nails are the most talked about topic on Instagram, making up 26% of all hashtags, while eyes and lips were a close second with 21%.
When it comes to Facebook the numbers weren’t a lot different although 69% admitted to being active on the social media platform every day, with 26% using it to find out about the latest launches and research popular products (25%).
It seems reviews still play a huge part in people’s decision making with 42% of those questioned admitting to using Facebook to read reviews of the products and the site has seen a 19% increase in the mentions of beauty in the last year.
74% also admitted to using both Instagram and Facebook to view how-to videos- so make sure you are taking advantage of the trend and can be easily found on line.
